Where it all began: The origins of Nectar & Vessel

naomiizen

As I sit down to write this post, I realize this could be an entire podcast (if I even had a podcast!) The entire story of this little floral studio of mine is more than I can fit in a reasonable blog post with so many twists & turns it's not even funny, so I'm going to share a timeline with you all.

I love the format of timelines for so many reasons. There is something so beautiful about being able to look back at a linear view of life and realize how the things we craved and desired so much are actually here and happening. I love how in our lives a year can seem like a minute but 5 years can seem like a lifetime, and I just absolutely love to see the arc of time in a clear and concise way even though we all know that is just an illusion.

THE VERY EDITED DOWN N&V TIMELINE FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE

So there you have it, the very simplified timeline of this beautiful floral studio of mine.

A couple takeaways in case a timeline isn't your thing:

  • The initial dream was just to live in California & work in a floral shop (That clearly didn't last long)

  • I sort of FELL into wedding design because friends just kept asking me to do their weddings, and I was doing a really good job at it (toot, toot!)

  • It took years of behind the scenes work to get to where I am today and I still have so many things I want to accomplish (*I'll devote another blog post to the visioning of where I want N&V to go!)

  • 2025 is the 10th year of my floral career and I had no idea of that until I made this timeline!

Something that isn't in the timeline but I think is important to note:

  • My background is in fashion and interior styling. I worked in NYC in the Shelter Magazine world and have a degree in Fashion Design & Merchandising. All of this influences my work, my studio the progression of where we are going.

  • I also spent 3 years connecting to the earth through farming & herbal medicine & intentional community building which is the pathway to how I ended up in the floral world.

Like I said, this could have been a podcast (anyone want to interview me?!).

I find learning about other people's journeys kind of helps me appreciate my own journey because our paths are all unique and none should look the same. If you ever want to know more, please reach out, I'm an open book.
